The visual difference in the two images result in a "tearing", or a visible line where you can see the two images join. The problem with this is if it starts rendering an image and then before it finishes rendering the image (let's say, it only reached halfway down the screen) it's time to render the next frame/image, it'll start rendering the new image from that point. This means it will display whatever image needs to be displayed starting at the top left corner, row by row, left to right, pixel by pixel, until it reaches the bottom. Most monitors/graphics cards render things progressively (thus the "p" after "1080p", etc.). If the default is greater than "1", it'll make the game smoother but increase the chance of your game slowing down to smooth graphics out. In other words, maxFrameSkip "1" makes the game choppier but reduces slowing down of the frame rate (assuming the default is "0"). That is true, I dont know about games built off the engine of starbound (if it is release for other to build actual games from) but we might see some interesting total conversions like happened with minecraft. If it's still having trouble, it'll start slowing down the game until it can render every other frame. You're now running at 30 fps, technically. If it's set to "1", it'll first start skipping a max of 1 frame, making the frames it's required to render be every other frame. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but let's say you're having trouble rendering 60 fps. Setting maxFrameSkip to "1" (I would assume the default is "0") will allow the game to skip a maximum of 1 frame if it's falling behind. This results in choppier graphics (stuttering) but keeps up the gamepace. 2.) Render less frames by skipping rendering a frame if it's falling behind. It will slow down your fps, take more than usual time to render each frame, resulting in your game having the "underwater" effect and run slow. When the game can't keep up with that many images per second, it will do one of two things. That means it has to render an image 60 times per second. Say you're trying to play a game at 60 fps.
